The New Zealand dollar drifted weaker against its U.S. counterpart on Friday in Asia, depreciating almost 0.3 percent to 0.8618 from a session's high of 0.8644.

If the pair extends downtrend, 0.8580 is seen as the next likely support level. The kiwi-greenback pair closed yesterday's deals at 0.8632.
